S-E-O(h), Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh – The Right Stuff

If you haven’t guessed it by now (from my previous blogs), I grew up with an ’80’s music background.  & <no> I wasn’t a huge NKOTB fan,  but I thought this song was appropriate for a SEO article.

Over the past 20+ years of my Media experience, I was (mostly) about paid media & placement:  HUTS, PUTS, Ratings, Shares, Reach & Frequency.  It wasn’t until the past 5 years that I really researched and came to understand the POWER of Search Engine Optimization.

I heard a very amusing comparison about organic search and the importance of being on Page One………(feel free to ‘borrow’ it.)

(Q): “Where does someone go to hide its bodies so the police won’t find them?

(A): “Page 2 of Google…… because NO ONE goes there to look”

Sad, but true!  92% of searches do NOT go past Page 1 when researching or looking-up something.

I saw this quote and it really stuck with me:  “You do not EXIST if Google does not know about you.  And, if Google knows little (to nothing) about you, people will too!”  Customers will not turn stones to find you.  You MUST help them find you……INSIST that they find you.

Here are some interesting stats to back-up that last statement:

90% of people haven’t made their mind about a brand before starting a search.   (Source: Omnicore)

  • 86% of people look up the location of a business in Google Maps.
  • 50% of search queries are made up of four words or more.
  • 93% of all website traffic comes from search engines.
  • A thumbnail in the search results can increase your traffic by 50%.

47% of buyers looked at 3-5 pieces of content before contacting a sales representative.  (Source: Hubspot)

  • 66% of marketers use blogs in social media content.
  • 6-13 words in the title attract the highest amount of traffic.
  • 38% of marketers publish content at least once per week.
  • 63% are creating content with the buyer in mind above all else.

At Bullseye Marketing:

*We GET you into the conversation    <or>    *We KEEP you in the conversation

What does that mean? Your current clientele already knows who you are and you (probably) have a good rapport with them.  However – if you don’t stay in front of them on a consistent basis, your competition is going to snatch them up with a better offer or service. (Out of Sight, Out of Mind)!  <that’s how Groupon has become so popular over the past decade>.  People are ALWAYS looking for <what they perceive> is a better deal.  But (as we all know) a discounted price doesn’t always come with the best results.

If people are searching for a product or service that you provide, but they don’t know who you are or what you do, you have exactly ZERO percent chance in them in considering you……..that’s why being on Page 1 is so important for the growth (& sustainability) of your company.

Another misnomer is that businesses HAVE to be on Page One of Google.  While that IS important, Google searches make-up about 90% of ALL searches.  Yes – Google is the 500-pound gorilla when it comes to searches, but 10% of searches are NOT done thru Google. If you focus your efforts only on Google, you’re missing out.  If you have a small to medium size budget and can’t afford to compete with ‘the big boys’ in your space, you can be a big fish in a small pond!  Believe it (or not), even AOL is still relevant!

If you want to be successful in digital marketing, you must have strong content…….because CONTENT IS KING. Posting regularly, using the right words and thinking about the customer.
